My Dream Concert!

July 29, 2013

Irvine, CA

When I heard that John Mayer was finally resurfacing to go on tour, I was elated!  It’s pretty wild that ONE person is responsible for so many of my favorite songs.  His work stems back to my early high school days and my affinity for his music hasn’t lessened a bit over the years.  That being said, up until this weekend, I had never been to one of his shows before.  I know, it’s kind of loco, but it’s the truth.  So when Eric surprised me with tickets to this past weekend’s show at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, I was PSYCHED!  Oh, and to top it off, Phillip Phillips, who I grew to love on American Idol last season, was opening the show.  What could be better? For me- not a whole lot.

Since the concert was a bit of a drive away, we decided to make a weekend of it. Taking a day to hang by the hotel pool, and getting out of the city for a full 24 hours, is rejuvenating in oh so many ways.

The show proved to exceed all of my (incredibly high) expectations.  The performances bested any recorded versions I’d previously heard, which for me (someone who can not sing AT ALL) is fascinating!  The venue is perfect for a warm summer night.  We drank cold beverages, ate tacos, and sang as loud as we wanted from our cozy lawn seats.  To paint a picture, it’s like a big nighttime picnic with fantastic music- I’ll take it! Making for a glorious Saturday night all around, it was truly a wonderful show- one that won’t soon be forgotten.  Thanks for coming back Mr. Mayer- I hope you stick around for a long while!

For the show, I wanted to have some fun with my outfit and wear some bright colors.  Ya never know, John Mayer might really appreciate a good pair of bright peach flats and next thing ya know, I’m backstage, BAM! (You know that I like to dream big;) Anyways, these colorful flats and the shorts are from Forever21 and they are both comfy and fun- perfect for a night outdoors on the lawn.  I feel it is also necessary to note that I found this lace top at H&M for $2.50 last weekend (what!?). You can’t beat their sales.

Hope you are having a lovely Monday.  Go ahead and have a little fun with your outfits this week, you never know who they might impress!

Fun Friday!

July 26, 2013

A little park in near 6th St and Fairfax, Los Angeles, CA

Fun Friday, Casual Friday, Fabulous Friday, or whatever other lovely name you can think of to call this glorious day, it marks the start of weekend, and I couldn’t be happier! Who knows what these next two magical days will hold? Will I: rearrange my apartment, catch up with old friends, begin writing a novel, find amazing new pieces at the flea market, discover a delicious brunch spot, finally learn how to surf, attend an epic party, meet exciting new people, run into Tom Brady at the beach (I dream big), or even just sleep for eleven hours straight, the possibilities are ENDLESS!

So go ahead and get after it!

I like to carry my whimsical weekend view over to my wardrobe on Fridays.  Today is no exception.  This short little polka dot skirt from H&M is so much fun and polka dots are so very in right now. Even Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and most fashionable mom on the planet, was rocking some polka dots this week!  So go ahead, have some fun, and find an outfit that makes you feel like can accomplish the world this weekend!

TGIF!

Purple in the Park

When in doubt, go for a picnic! That’s my motto anyways.

Since returning to LA, it has been a bit dreary and oddly muggy (I guess the Boston weather followed me back here!)  So this weekend, instead of heading to the beach or the pool, my boyfriend and I decided to go picnic at a local park that we had never been to before.  And it was great!

Picnics are really perfect for the not-so-beachy summer days that are bound to come around from time to time.  And let’s be honest, there’s really nothing more relaxing than spending the afternoon hanging out under a tree, eating a sandwich, and reading a good book at the park. Ok…I guess if you factor in the kids running around and the ants crawling up your legs, it’s probably pretty easy to think of more relaxing spots, but let’s just agree that it’s a great way to spend an afternoon.  It’s a place to disconnect from the internet, admire other people’s dogs, and lay back making up stories about the cloud shapes above.  For me specifically, it’s a place where I can be content to just sit quietly (which is RARE) and take a moment to appreciate the beauty that’s actually always around me, just usually unnoticed.

It’s the little things.

Life is certainly busy, stressful, and tough so to take a moment to appreciate the positivity that is all around you.  Whether it’s a picnic or a longer walk on your lunch break, it will recharge your soul and it will make for a better day.

This adorable purple summer dress is from Ruche  and will bring a pop of color to even your cloudiest of days.  I paired it with some classic nude heels and a turquoise handmade wrap bracelet by Victoria Emerson.   Usually, this item would be oustide my price range, but I got it on livingsocial.  Yay for great deals! Sometimes I forget about livingsocial for jewelry, reserving it mostly for getting involved in new exercise classes and getaway packages, but don't make this same mistake. Check it out from time to time- you'll find some gems!
