BIG NIGHT, LITTLE PRICE TAGS

Hollywood, CA

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to see the legendary, Sarah Brightman, perform at the Kodiak Theater. I’ve loved her classic songs for years, and so it was amazing to finally see her live. Between her voice and the sparkling Swarovski collection that she wore throughout the performance, it was truly a stunning evening. And now through 4/13, take 20% off Sarah’s Signature Swarovski Collection. Shop here!

So what does a girl wear to a fancy night out at the Kodiak Theater? An $89 ensemble that passes for $890. From the shoes to the earrings, this entire look was only $89! Sometimes a sucker for higher price tags, these pieces prove that I don’t have to overspend to feel and look my best. Oh and this dress from Chicwish is made out of a material that’s so comfy, it almost feels like pj’s! While the cutouts keep it feeling dressed up, it’s really just an easy throw-on-and-go number. I wear lots (and lots!) of dresses, but this one might just be the most flattering one that I own at the moment. Perfect for all things fancy, I can’t wait to find a reason to wear this outfit again.

NEW OLDIES

Los Angeles, CA

I am constantly updating my wardrobe. My closet is essentially a revolving door of dresses, jeans and a few new trendy pieces. And while I love nothing more than dressing up in something new, I have learned that a good closet cleanout can bring forth some of the best finds. From classic LBDs to button-down skirts and culottes, this recent cleaning uncovered some real gems.

Unlike those save-it-for-forever types, I am the person who deeply enjoys getting rid of unused pieces (I'm looking at you low-rise jeans). So if I do happen to hang onto something after a closet purge, it means something.

I've had this pleated maxi skirt for years. I remember wearing it to my first fashion editor job 4 years ago! It has gotten me through meetings and lunch dates and even a baby shower or two yet I totally forgot about it until last week. I paired it with this cropped cold shoulder top from Nordstrom and it felt brand new all over again. Is there anything better than making an old favorite new again? What are some of your forever keepers?

Un-Boring Office Attire

Marina del Rey, CA

8-145.jpg

Who says you can't have fun with your workday style? It could be that the phrase "office appropriate" usually corresponds with neutral colors and Plain Jane silhouettes. But after spending several years in a wide range of office environments: fashion-forward, corporate, ultra-casual, and even techy, I've learned that this idea couldn't be farther from the truth. While I certainly do alter my look to fit the office vibe (I wear a lot fewer heels working in tech than I did in my fashion company days) I've discovered that professional wear and fresh, exciting outfits are not mutually exclusive.

I don't mean that you should waltz into work wearing a cropped tee or tube top, and there are definitely a few good rules follow, like avoiding shorter hemlines and opting for tailored pieces. I personally love finding traditionally conservative silhouettes that have been reimagined with bold prints and fun pops of color. And no matter what the tone of my office, these styles are always warmly welcomed. For summer, this means going for jumpsuits and rompers over basic trousers. And in winter, it's layering with great sweaters and of-the-moment jackets.

This romper from Banana Republic Factory is on sale now and is just bright enough to turn a few heads.  I love it paired with beaded hoops or tassel earrings to give it an extra kick. Its just the thing you need to keep your office outfit rotation interesting. And if this one isn't quite your style, I've got you covered with more of my favorite one-piece styles below.
