Well who doesn’t love a four day week? Cheers to this Monday (that’s actually a Tuesday) and the start of what’s to be a quicker than usual week!  I spent some time at the beach this past weekend and picked up a few too many freckles while enjoying the warm breeze and salty ocean air.  I love this time of year.  It’s the start of exciting summer excursions and endless fun!

This outfit is perfect for an afternoon stroll or a lunch date with the girls and it’s definitely got a bit of a New-England vibe to it.  I grew up spending my summers in little coastal towns in and around New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts, so the bright colors and oxfords that embody those communities will always appeal to me.  I absolutely adore scalloped shorts, they add a little extra femininity to an otherwise plain short and these ones from Loopsway are great because they are also floral (what could be better right?)  They’re really comfortable, affordable, and I love the high waist because it gives you so many options for tops.  These are an essential for your summer wardrobe.  I paired them with a classic lace top that you might remember from this post and added pops of color with my bright Kate Spade bag and some of my favorite bracelets.

Long Weekend & Light Colors.

Ah yes, it’s MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!! And that means that we get an extra day to sleep in and avoid the office grind and that is something we can all be excited about, right? BBQ’s, beach days, pool parties, and little weekend getaways are all in order over the next couple of days.  I am headed to a black tie wedding tomorrow, which is sure to be both fancy and fun.   Despite the fact that I stressed a bit about what to wear, I've always thought black tie weddings are really beautiful.  Everyone looks their best, including the happy couple, and it just adds to the elegance of the day.  Eric is a bit of a dancer at weddings and so I’m already preparing myself for the endless amounts of dancing that I’m likely to get into tomorrow night.  I can't wait!

I decided to change it up today with some milkmaid braids (my first attempt at doing them).  They were actually not as hard as I thought, though they definitely could use a little work (maybe my next few attempts will have less flyways!)  Pastels just brighten everything up and I figured this outfit was perfectly airy and fun for a weekend of spring festivities.  I paired the look with some cutout heels from Ruche, giving it a bit of a dressed-up look, perfect for a nice brunch but you can certainly throw on some flats to dress this down for a daytime BBQ.  I’m not sure if it was because I had my hair up or because of the flowy skirt/tight top combo felt similar to a leotard and ballet skirt, but I got back into my old roots a bit and felt like a dancer again today!

I’ve included all of these pieces below and also some similar looks as well.  The best part about this look is that the whole thing is under $100 AND since it’s memorial day, all of these stores are having great sales so head over to the site this weekend and you can get this look for even less!

Have a happy and safe holiday!

Anniversary Love.

another dancy one.jpg

The other night it was our two-year anniversary and since it also marks the end of another chapter for us-long distance- (Eric just finished school in Boston & I’ve been living in Los Angeles) we decided to really celebrate!  Before having dinner at this adorable Italian spot, Locanda Veneta, we decided to exchange gifts and this year, I wanted to do something a little different- I decided to make my gift.   Now I definitely can’t take credit for coming up with this idea, I saw it on Pinterest, as a thirtieth birthday idea and then made a couple of changes to suit it for our anniversary.  In the original idea, there was a balloon and a photo for every year of the person’s life and so I decided to modify it a tad and do a balloon and a photo for every month we were together.  It was really simple- just get the photos together for each month, hole punch the top of the photo and attach a balloon.  I wanted to get as many colored balloons as possible to represent all the memories and moments, but you can really do whatever color scheme you want!

Luckily, I take a lot of pictures and could actually find one for each and every month.  It was fascinating to see how much traveling the two of us have done over the past two years, we never missed a month, and when you are living across the country that’s frequent flyer status!   The project will take you a bit of time and fitting 24 balloons in my small coupe was no easy feat but it was definitely worth it!  He really appreciated all of it and was totally surprised.  Let's be honest, I think anyone that walks into a room full of balloons unexpectedly is going to be blown away, right? Oh and side note- when I posted a photo of this yesterday, a ton of friends thought that E did this for me and were melting at the thought, so all you guys out there- if you're trying to make a lady swoon, this might just be an awesome idea.  Just don't say you found the idea here!

It was so much fun for us to look back at all the memories together and it’s just so important to take moments like an anniversary or a birthday to remind your loved ones how much they truly mean to you.  Great friends, family, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives, cousins, roommates- if you have great people around you- let them know!

And a huge thank you to Courtney for being there to capture this moment! Xo
