Transitional Must-Haves—No Matter the Coast

Los Angeles, CA

Depending on where you live, transitional dressing can be very different. Back in my hometown in New England, it often means that you could be dealing with snow one day and 70 degree weather another. While in LA, it's never really too cold or too hot during the transition from winter to spring.

So what is the cross-seasonal piece you need no matter where you live?

The trench coat. It's the perfect weight and length for transitional weather. I love it because it keeps you warm without being too heavy and it's great for layering. And depending on your climate, you can grab one that's warmer or lightweight.

I love to throw it on over a fitted dress for when it’s too chilly to wear alone, with a pair of cropped skinnies or with a printed skirt.

I went classic with the tan color but you can pretty much shop a trench in every shade under the rainbow. I love the idea of a pink version of this, don't you guys? Oh and this particular one is under $50!

spring steps

West Hollywood, CA

It’s cold, it’s hot—the weather changes so much this time of year that it's impossible to know if you need duck boots or sandals when you step outside. And as we near the cusp of spring (yay!) I think it's a good time to pull out those transitional pieces that will carry you through both seasons (no matter the weather).

Working as a fashion editor for many years, I lived in heels but nowadays, I've found that an outfit can be just as stylish with a pair of comfy boots or sneakers. The Hattie Sneaker by Vionic proves that it's totally possible to be comfortable and look put together in a pair of kicks. In fact, Vionic designs all of their shoes with supportive technology so that you don't ever have to suffer through a day of painful walking again! And because I live on-the-go, I really need a pair of shoes that will keep up with the many steps I take a day (and not leave me with blistered feet). I love pairing these with blazers, dresses and maxi skirts for a bit of contrast.

Oh and can we talk about these jeans for just a second? Are they pants? Are they shorts? Doesn't matter. I'm comfortable, warm, and still able to feel a little breeze on the ankles.

Spring, I'm ready for ya!
