In Bloom

Things are really heating up here in Los Angeles.  Already warm, it’s been especially steamy these past few days with sticky, 90 degree days and balmy nights. While it doesn’t exactly make for the most comfortable picnic weather, it’s perfect for an evening stroll or outdoor dinner date.

Last night I stepped out for cocktails in this airy floral dress.  With beautiful bell sleeves and a short, flowy design, this piece is really a summer dream.  Now I don’t know about you guys but somewhere it has been ingrained in my mind to think “daytime” when I see a flowery print.  Set aside only for brunches and lunch-dates, I used to think these pretty prints were not appropriate for evening territory.  Thankfully I’ve evolved. With addition of pumps and a structured jacket or sweater, your look can go from day-to-night in a snap. From whimsical watercolor prints to airy chiffons and crimson red blossoms, floral dresses come in an array of romantic options, all perfect for your next night out.

Check out more of my so-called daytime floral dresses at the end of this post!

Seamlessly transition from August to early fall with the perfect pencil skirt. With a feminine, fitted silhouette, this classic piece offers a world of versatility.

There are really no rules for topping off a pencil skirt.  Today I went with a crocheted tank and cropped jacket to pull off a polished office look. For a chillier fall temps, try playing up the contrast between the streamlined bottom by pairing it with a slouchy sweater or chunky knit top. Check out this older post to get some more ideas! Or for a more casual look, try wearing it with a vintage tee and statement necklace.

I love this particular design from Ruche because the stripes and slit in the back help to set it apart from my more stereotypical office skirts.   Oh and the best part?  It’s on sale right now.

Comfy

I’m heading back to work today after a whirlwind weekend away.  I sunbathed, attended a beautiful oceanside wedding, and spent my days indulging in seafood with friends and family. Needless to say, getting back to the office today has been a bit of a struggle. To ease my way into reality, I’ve decided to dress like I’m still on vacation with this fun, casual look.

I stumbled into these printed pants from H&M a few weeks ago. They were $10 and as cozy as pj’s so I, of course, grabbed them.  While this look here is very bold and casual, if styled with pumps and a nude blouse, you can easily pull off an outfit that’s well-suited for the office.  This ensemble is certainly a bit different for me and while I usually gravitate towards the classic, more polished pieces, every once in a while I like to let my hair down and try something new.
