SUMMER FAVES FROM Avec les Filles

Newburyport, MA

With summer now in full swing and lots of events left on your calendar, you need go-to pieces to carry you through. Avec les Filles has got them all. From elevated basics to versatile styles, I've been stocking up on pretty pieces from this chic yet approachable brand all season. Is there anything better than uncomplicated looks that make getting dressed a cinch? Not really.

While each Avec les Filles piece feels accessibly chic, I also love the retro details they add to make each piece one-of-a-kind.

Not your basic white summer dress, the Tiered Midi Dress makes accessorizing super simple. The standout ruffle sleeves and embroidery are really enough to make a statement all on their own. So for dinner with friends, I just pulled my hair back into a bun, threw on some summery statement earrings, slip on sandals—and though it was an effortless look, I got lots of compliments.

For an easy day-to-night outfit, you can't go wrong with the Tiered Linen-Blend Mini Dress! The belted waistline is really flattering and I love I can throw it on and not have to think about how to style it too much. Just pair it with some chunky heels and you've got a look that's casual yet flirty.

If the weather in your world is anything like it's been here in New England lately, a cute raincoat is also a must-have. Simple, stylish, and practical, the Oversized Nylon Rain Anorak is a cool (and way too necessary) addition to any summer look. My favorite part is the bold, shiny interior. It'll give your outfit an unexpected pop. I paired it with sneakers, leggings, and a sweater for my super casual rainy-filled walk.

Snow Day Style

Newburyport, MA

Life has been, well, COLD lately. As we get used to winter weather and freezing walks, we have also been doing our best to enjoy the change of scenery it brings. Snow-lined streets and white (snowy) beaches are our new normal lately—and it’s been pretty fun! We have also had to update our wardrobes accordingly. I snagged this cozy jacket at Nordstrom last year and it’s still one of my most-worn pieces today.

FIND YOUR HAPPY

More than ever, I need outlets to stay positive these days. It has undoubtedly been a challenging time for everyone and with more isolation and division in this country than I can ever remember, it is easy to get down. That being said, I realized that no matter how rough it gets, we will never get this time back. That is why I have decided to spend my summer back home in New England with my family. I have felt so lucky to have this time with them and so as hard as it can be, I am trying to remember that our time is precious and we need to go towards things that make us happy.

I wore this floral maxi dress from Vagamundo to lunch with my Mum the other day and it gave me so much LIFE! It is a beautiful blend of boho and classic style. It is also by far and away the most fun dress to twirl and dance in. A dress that is super comfy, yet really easy to dress up, too? I’ll take a few more! (It actually does come in a few more colors). And right now, you can take 15% off your entire Vagamundo purchase using code: KELLY15. Enjoy!

Here are some other things that are helping me (at least a little) stay positive right now:

  • Surround yourself with positive people that love you. If someone doesn’t make you feel happy, don’t spend your time with them. Find your people (even if it is just one or two right now) and keep them close.

  • Pick up a new hobby and commit to having one thing to show from it. Whether it is running )(for me!) and sharing your daily mile count with a friend, or learning to cook and making a meal for someone, using the extra time to pursue a new hobby can feel really rewarding.

  • Get active about the things you care about. With so many injustices going on in the world, it is important to find a way to get involved, even if it is simply sending out emails or donating to a cause. It will help you feel less helpless.

  • Play great music throughout the day. You’ll be surprised how much this can help boost your mood.

  • Get outside (with a mask)! Back in LA, I found myself feeling really sad inside my apartment all day so eventually, I forced myself to go on walks around the neighborhood 2-3 times a day. It really helped!

  • Do one kind thing every day. This can be sending an email or a message at work to let someone know you appreciate their help or letting a stranger go ahead of you at the grocery store. No matter how small it is, it will help you feel more positive.
