Neutrals Are the New Black

Sometimes less really is more.

For a refreshing spring feel, reintroduce yourself light colors and neutral shades.  Today, I’ve decided to trade in my traditional LBD for this breezy slip dress from Ruche.  Delicate and feminine, it’s a flirty alternative to basic date night looks. Don’t you love the pretty pleats and ruffled neckline?

I think it pairs best with classic designs and colors so I chose to style it with nude ankle strap pumps, a pastel bracelet and an antique-feel necklace.

Girly Style, All Grown Up

April 27, 2015

For a spring look that’s ultra-femme, try working a swishy tulle midi skirt into your wardrobe.  Set aside for dance recitals and Carrie Bradshaw highlight reels, this grown-up tutu skirt is making a serious comeback this season and while it’s not the easiest number to pull off, I’m going to show you just what you need to make it work.

Because it’s already so girly,  try pairing  it with a more basic, textured top like this slouchy chambray Cloth & Stone button-up I found at Marshalls. For finishing touches, I’d stay away from delicate, floral or whimsical pieces.  You’ll notice I went with chunkier booties instead of pointy-toed flats and a bold statement necklace instead of dainty layering necklaces.  It creates contrast and allows you to achieve a more polished, adult feel.

That being said, with a piece this lovely,  it's impossible not to end up with a look that’s perfectly ladylike.

Stripes on Stripes

April 20, 2015

Marina del Rey, CA

pm.jpg

This Monday, I’m looking on the bright side with bold stripes and a splashy color combo.

I spent an afternoon at Marina del Rey, catching up with friends and grabbing lunch outside on the docks. This nearby oasis always reminds me a bit of home and so, my outfit here reflects my preppier, New England roots. The classic silhouette of this turtleneck dress from Free People is chic and figure-flattering—and the best part about it? I found it at Marshalls for half the price! I styled it with cutout Dolce Vita Oxfords from Anthropologie, round sunglasses (I can’t get enough of this retro style right now) and a striped clutch.  I think it’s fun to reinvent classic looks with the addition of a new accessory.  Whoever said you can have too much of a good thing is crazy! I say when it works, layer it on.
