Light As A Feather

Shed those winter layers!

Warmer spring weather brings along fresh air, brighter days and light, breezy wardrobe pieces.  This long feather-printed maxi dress from Ruche is just that.  An updated take on classic daytime dress, this short-sleeved number is made unique with an open peekaboo back.  Pair with flats for an afternoon soiree or tall wedges for night on the town, either way it’s sure to flatter.  I have already been living in it the past couple of weeks. No matter the occasion-- drinks, casual Fridays, birthday parties, beach dates--I’ve found a way to make this dress work.  It’s a chic throw-on-and-go piece and with such a bold print, it really requires very simple jewelry.  I went with some delicates, gold rings and a cuff bracelet. Now the only thing I need is to find out how to get it in another color!

Party Pants

March 20, 2015

It’s Friday--dress accordingly!

My sister sent me these colorful trouser pants for my birthday back in January and they have quickly become a workweek staple. As comfy as my favorite pair of sweats, they also manage to pull off a fun professional vibe. What’s better than that? Any trend that blends cozy and chic is one that I am certainly on board with and these pants certainly qualify. The vibrant print makes pairing and styling easy.  I kept the top very simple with a basic fitted black tee and added blazer to throw on for meetings and moments I where I wanted to look a bit more polished throughout the day.

Eye-catching yet totally casual, this look is the perfect way to wrap up the workweek.

Oh and I love this electrical box that has been transformed into a mini chalk board. A mysterious someone gives it a weekly update and while I'd love to know who it is, the mystery of it all makes it all the more exciting.  Whimsical, inspirational but usually just down right silly, these quotes always put a smile on my face.

Happy Weekend Everyone.  Go ahead-put your party pants on and rock out with your unique self!

Mostly Monochrome

We’ve all got solid color separates in our wardrobe. Essential to our everyday, these  staple pieces are truly great for any season.

Today, I’m sticking with separates that are both similar shades of gray.  When pairing pieces that are within the same color hue, I find, that if done right, the outcome can be as striking as wearing a bold pattern or vivid color.  The key is to mix different textures and designs.  It doesn’t have do be anything dramatic but  you’ll want to make sure that the fabrics and cuts are different enough from one another so that variety and depth is added where it otherwise may be lacking.

The ruffles and sophisticated structure of this peplum top from Ruche contrasts perfectly with my light-wash, more casual, denim skinnies.  I cheated and added a touch of color with an orange statement necklace but since I am new to trying out this trend, I figured I’d start off slow.  Mixing blacks, whites and neutrals are a great place to start.  We all have to start somewhere, right? I’m hoping to become brave enough to pull off a brighter, bolder monochromatic look by the end of spring/beginning of summer.  What do you guys think of mixing similar shades? Any pros out there?
