Topsfield MA, Salem MA, & Boston MA

While I have certainly been MIA here on the blog front, I have to admit I have a pretty good reason… my sister got married!!  In the midst of one of the most bitterly cold and stormy winters that New England has seen in years, she planned a gorgeous, quaint, winter wedding at the beautiful Willowdale Estate in Topsfield MA, and while the week was filled with unexpected snow showers, lightning, and rain, Saturday, her wedding day, turned out to be a “warm” and sunny 48.  An unexpected break in a string of chillingly cold and stormy weather, perfectly fitting for a perfect day.

When I arrived in Boston earlier in the week, I remember being astonished, first of all that the plane landed in the middle of the blizzard that was happening and second, about just how much snow had accumulated everywhere.  Even though my family provides me with constant weather updates, it doesn’t seem real when you’r living in 70 degree weather every day.  Then, as if he was reading my mind, the flight attendant got on the intercom and said “Welcome to Boston.  And welcome to an actual, real winter.”   I laughed a bit and then quickly found my scarf and hat and braced myself for the frost-filled air that was awaiting me outside.

It was winter alright and I got a heavy dose right away.  Quick dinners in the city turned into longer ones, as I attempted to wait out the sudden blasts of snow that set in as we ordered our meals.  “Where did that come from?” I’d ask, but no one even seemed to notice. This has become their everyday.

I honestly think the weather made Erin’s wedding even more lovely.  She embraced the rainy weather at her rehearsal dinner by wearing adorable blue rain boots (“something blue”) with her white cocktail dress and coat.  The few photos that I’ve seen were stunning in the snow and the venue and hotel were both suited for a cozy winter venue.  The white candles that flooded the reception area and snow covered windowpanes were truly romantic.  Erin glowed in her stunningly classic gown, and my lively family kept the dance floor full throughout the night.

I’m so thrilled that my sister found such a wonderful guy to spend the rest of her life with. She is so happy when he’s around- I could’ve been in LA to feel the love at this wedding.  I wish you guys nothing but the very best! xoxo

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

blow kiss.jpg

I decided to go for a classically romantic Valentine’s look today.  Dressed in this red dress from H&M, and paired with red lipstick from Sephora, I’m pretty much a walking Valentine... (a person-gram!)  Oh and I found the dress on the sale rack a couple weeks ago for $10 dollars (honestly) which inspired my bold red look. It's fun to dress up in reds, pinks, lace, hearts, and florals on Valentines day.  Any excuse to dress girly- I'll take!

I hope that your day is full of candy, treats, and lots of love.  As gimmicky as this holiday has become, I think the idea of setting aside a day to let your loved ones know how much you care about them, is really pretty great.

xoxo

Just Go with It.

Hancock Park, CA

It’s February, and while we’re still in the thick of winter, and snow is beginning to pile high in most parts of the country, it was 80 degrees today in LA.  I mean, if I had a pool, I’d be laying out right now, that’s the kind of weather I’m talking about here.  And while I had all intentions of wearing a totally different, much cozier, and seasonally appropriate outfit today, I’m not sure whether the glare from the bright sunshine or my glistening sweat would’ve made those photos more distracting.  Either way, I decided to be true to my current spring-like climate.  I threw on this breezy, mint polka-dot dress from Maison Jones and took a walk over to some of the beautiful gardens in Hancock Park.

By the way, do you notice that when the weather gets beautiful, everyone seems to be in a better mood?  I feel like people were just a tiny bit happier everywhere I went today and I, personally, couldn’t stop laughing during the whole shoot this afternoon.  My photographer, Jennifer, kept cracking jokes and we just couldn’t keep it together. Oh and the best part is that these photos are right in front of someone’s beautiful home (sometimes you have to do weird things when taking photos) and she came home in the middle of the shoot, stared at us for a second, and then went along with her business inside the house… sending us into yet another fit of laughter!  Probably not the most mature moment of our lives but I’m going to go ahead and blame it on the sun.

Oh and speaking of getting into hilarious shenanigans with your friends, did you guys know that today is officially called Galentines Day?!  When I learned this, I was basically thrilled and embarrassed at the same time.  Not only am I not the only gal who enjoys taking a moment to celebrate her girlfriends around Valentines Day, but in fact, there is an actual HOLIDAY dedicated to it.  And here I was thinking all this time that I was so clever, dedicated an entire blog post talking about the idea, and low and behold, there is a GALENINTES DAY (by the way how creative is that name?- AMAZING) invented for this very thing. Ha! At least now I’m in the loop… and so are you guys- unless you already knew but didn’t tell me (how rude).

I just got this retro-inspired dress and it’s perfect because it combines everything I love: polka-dots, mint, flare and it feels oh so girly.  I hope that this outfit today inspires you to get excited about spring and all the sunshine that we have to look forward to.  And don’t worry snow-bunnies- I’ll be back in Boston next week, where it’s sure to be chilly and cold too!
