Summer in the City

Los Angeles, CA

During the whacky-weather month of September I'm always a bit confused about how exactly to dress. It's warmer than it's been all year but everywhere I turn I see plush fall styles. And while I'd love to add on a layer like the magazines instruct, it just simply too hot. It was 100 degrees in LA yesterday!

So what should you wear during this transitional time? I say stick to basic, cross-seasonal pieces. These floral shorts are exactly that. I snagged them a couple of weeks ago (for $15) and knew that they would be great for both summer and fall.  Perfect for the office or an afternoon of shopping (which is where I wore them here) you can easily swap out my summery top for a sweater when things begin to cool off.

Day & Night

Culver City, CA

TGIF.

Today I am keeping things easy, quick and casual.

In an effort to shake it up a bit, I strayed away from my usual lighter, brighter look and went with a black and gray pairing.  I finally gave the trendy lace-up top a try and paired it with some go-to trouser pants. The result? A flirty look that works well for both day and night.  A casual day at the office, happy hour, a lunch with friends-- it works for all three!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Backyard Getaway

Venice Canals

The Venice Canals are practically in my backyard but I rarely make it over there.  A serene oasis with colorful canoes, arched walkways and waterfront cottages--it's a perfect place to escape and recharge. I stopped by (possibly a bit overdressed to walk the docks) on my way to meet friends for dinner last weekend and I felt like I was worlds away. Hey- when a flight to Italy is not an option, this place is the next best thing!

This breezy neck-tie dress is a new favorite of mine. It's effortlessly flirty and requires very little accessorizing (so my style!) And with vintage greens and burgundy hues, it puts a darker fall spin on the classic floral dress.
