Backyard Getaway

Venice Canals

The Venice Canals are practically in my backyard but I rarely make it over there.  A serene oasis with colorful canoes, arched walkways and waterfront cottages--it's a perfect place to escape and recharge. I stopped by (possibly a bit overdressed to walk the docks) on my way to meet friends for dinner last weekend and I felt like I was worlds away. Hey- when a flight to Italy is not an option, this place is the next best thing!

This breezy neck-tie dress is a new favorite of mine. It's effortlessly flirty and requires very little accessorizing (so my style!) And with vintage greens and burgundy hues, it puts a darker fall spin on the classic floral dress.

Scarf Season

Mar Vista, CA

Fall will always be scarf season to me. But this year, a new skinny version is stealing the show. Breathable, silky and ultra-femme, this latest trend is a major game changer. I love it. And while I am not a pro at twisting it up into fancy knots, it’s still pretty easy to pull off. Wear it with a vintage tee or tucked into a button-down, either way the slim scarf adds the cool to whatever you’re wearing this fall.

Today, I paired it with a pleated mini skirt, ivory tank and crossbody. It’s a fun transitional outfit—perfect for those days when you’re dreaming of apple picking but the temps still scream summer.

Peplum Perfection

Los Angeles, CA

Season after season, the peplum top continues to remain a hit. A staple of mine, I think I now own this type of top in just about every print, texture and shade available. And my latest addition, this charcoal gray number, was a steal I found at Marshalls. It has the thickness and quality of a sweater but the silhouette of a flattering mini dress. What's not to love?

For a  busy day at the office, I paired it with high-waisted black skinnies and ankle strap pumps. You can also pull it off with trousers and booties, casual boyfriend jeans, or a fitted leather pencil skirt. When you find a good peplum top, the options are really endless!
