A San Fransisco Treat

This past weekend I skipped town to explore San Francisco and Napa Valley. Just a quick flight away, this getaway land proved to be a refreshing change from my everyday LA scene. Since it was my first time venturing to the wineries up there, I played the part of “ultimate tourist”, taking in the picturesque views and partaking  in all of the extended tours and tastings. The weather was unseasonably warm (or so that’s what I kept hearing) so the light layers and breezy maxi dresses I packed proved to be useful after all! Quaint and oh so relaxing, the trip really turned out to be quite the treat.

Since it also happened to be my birthday that weekend, my friends and I decided to dress up for a day of shopping and eating around the city.  We stayed in Russian Hill, which was as charming as I’d always heard and ventured all over town, conquering hills in high-heels and all! I went for a classic, look with this retro midi skirt from Chicwish. Midi skirts are wonderful for any season and I have been waiting to wear this one since Christmas!  I can’t wait to pair it with a breezy top to transition it on over to spring.

Enjoy your weekend and GO PATRIOTS!! (Sorry I just had to)

Shifting from weekend to work-mode can be tough.  That’s why I think it’s important to kick things off with a refreshing look.  In fact, I’ve discovered that the right outfit can reenergize your entire day.  I used to dress how I felt. If I was tired, I’d keep things casual and if I was feeling great I’d wear my favorite pair of heels. Now, I try (as often as possible) to trick myself into feeling fresh, even on the days when I’d rather keep hitting the snooze button, by wearing something I’m excited about.

Enhancing your everyday style is pretty easy and can be as basic as adding a pop of color or a bold new statement necklace to your go-to getup.  Today I paired one of my favorite winter tops from Chicwish with a colorful wool skirt from H&M.  Together they offer a playfully polished approach to my typical workday ensemble.

La Brea Tar Pits

smile off.jpg

In an attempt to take advantage of all that this fine city has to offer, I decided to take a stroll down to the La Brea Tar Pits this past weekend.  I grabbed lunch with friends, caught up on some reading in the park, and took a stroll through some of the free exhibits at the LACMA.  Although the park is right in my neighborhood, I rarely get over there so it was incredibly refreshing.

For my afternoon at the park, I kept things perfectly casual and fittingly cool, to fit the breezy California winter we’re having.  I paired a printed cape sweater with some riding boots and a nude, Charming Charlie satchel for a look that is classically cozy.  A cape sweater is the perfect layer to any chilly look, whether you’re going for office-casual or weekend attire and that is why I will be living in it for the next couple of months!
