Sweater Season.

La Brea Tar Pits

In an attempt to take advantage of all that this fine city has to offer, I decided to take a stroll down to the La Brea Tar Pits this past weekend.  I grabbed lunch with friends, caught up on some reading in the park, and took a stroll through some of the free exhibits at the LACMA.  Although the park is right in my neighborhood, I rarely get over there so it was incredibly refreshing.

For my afternoon at the park, I kept things perfectly casual and fittingly cool, to fit the breezy California winter we’re having.  I paired a printed cape sweater with some riding boots and a nude, Charming Charlie satchel for a look that is classically cozy.  A cape sweater is the perfect layer to any chilly look, whether you’re going for office-casual or weekend attire and that is why I will be living in it for the next couple of months!

Shop Girl Chic

New Hampshire.

Hitting the streets to do some last minute shopping? That’s a yes if you’re me.  And if you’re anything like me, then instead of kicking back with some cookies and hot cocoa, you’re out braving that hectic holiday hustle, which can be a lot more like facing Friday rush hour traffic than enjoying a typical jaunt to the mall.

Regardless, time is ticking and with online options out the window, like it or not, we have to face the masses. Since I am no stranger to last minute shopping scenarios, I  say:  stay focused, make lists,  get yourself a great Spotify mix to get you through crazy traffic AND remind yourself that (as basic as this sounds) its really only the thought that counts.  Everyone always says this but it is so true.  The more personal/creative your gift the better- Pinterest is where I steal a lot of my ideas and you still have time to make something!

While running around town, I try to dress comfy but not too frumpy.  Think of it as a dressier weekend casual. I used to leave my house to run errands wearing whatever was closest to me at the moment, sweats and a UCLA sweatshirt or oversized sweaters and Uggs—seriously.  But over the years, I have found that it’s really just as easy to style up my staple pieces for a look that is much more polished and ready to take on the day.

This look here is just that. I paired a basic long-sleeved gray fit and flare dress with thick black tights, and a printed waterfall vest.  Because I am in chilly NH, I threw on this adorable beanie from Charming Charlie, which doubles as a quick fix for bad hair days!

Enjoy and best of luck with your holiday shopping!

Wintry Mix

December 12, 2014

Los Angeles, CA.

These past few weeks have been a bit of a blur.  Cramming in as much as possible before the close of another year has caused my blogging to take a bit of a backseat and so for that, I apologize!

Today, however, I am back! And I decided to mix up my go-to pencil skirt look with the addition of a quilted sweatshirt top.  Tucking chunkier, textured sweaters and knits into sleek, fitted bottoms is a trend that has been popping up all over the place this season and so I figured I would give it a try.  It’s fun to give your workweek style a change-up, especially when it can be as easy as adding texture!  This look, while still pretty basic (and comfy) actually scored me quite a few compliments around the office!

Keep in mind that you have to be careful with materials that are too bulky, as they can make for an unflattering combo.  I found that thinner tops like this one from the Gap, pairs really well.  Keep the look dressy by adding a pair of sassy pumps and a statement necklace and you will easily take your basic office getup from typical to winter-chic.
